Change DNS Settings in Windows

Sometimes you may want to override the default DNS (Domain Name Server) settings on your computer so you can specify which DNS server is used, or which IP address should be used for a particular domain. There are two ways to do this: Specify the DNS and map IP addresses.

(1) Specify the DNS to be Used

This method tells your computer which DNS to use for all your internet browsing. Most home users have this set to "automatic" and the DNS is provided by the user's ISP, but you can use any DNS you like (you can even make your own DNS if you're keen).

Before you start you will need to know the IP address of the DNS to use - if you don't know this you'll need to ask your system administrator or ISP.

To set your DNS, you need to find the Internet Protocol window.For Users on a Dial-up Connection:Go to My Computer>Dialup Networking.Right-click your internet connection and select Properties.A window will open - click the Server Types tab. Click TCP/IP Settings.For All Other Users:Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).Click Properties.

You will see a window like the one below - this is the Internet Protocol window. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the desired DNS server(s) in the space(s) provided.

Note: To add more DNS servers, click Advanced then the DNS tab

(2) Map IP Addresses

This method allows you to create settings for individual domains without altering your main DNS preferences. This is useful if you don't have access to a DNS or if you want to specify the location of a single domain without interfering with any of your other online activities.

Open the following file in a plain text editor such as Notepad:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

The file looks like the one below. At the end of the file (in this case, under the localhost entry), enter the IP and domain you wish to specify. When your browser attempts to access a domain it refers to this file first - if the domain is found here then the specified IP address will be used. If the domain is not found here, then the normal DNS server (as specified above) will be used.

But now you can add more DNS Server in your local area connection and get more speed of your current internet connection… You can use public DNS along with your ISP DNS and increase your internet speed.

The fundamental task of DNS is to translate hostnames such as theos.in to IP address such as 202.54.10.2 (tata vsnl dns). In very simple terms, it can be compared to a phone book.

You can add list of DNS Server IP address in Windows/Linux/Unix/BSD/Solaris Operating system. In all operating system except Windows you can add dns server ip address in below file.

Open your /etc/resolv.conf file and add IP address as below pattern

How to increase Internet speed

Hello Everone, it’s me again. Now, this time i am going to tell you the hack/trick to increase Windows XP Pro Internet speed by around 20%. This 20% internet speed increment may seem to be a little, but if you read this article thoroughly, you can see that this 20% is a lot (especially if your modem is 100MBPS), because Windows only allows you to use 80% by default, and 80 divided by 20 is 4, which is the 4%, based on what I calculated(Yep, bad at Math).

Anyway, you can see clearly up there this trick is for XP Pro only. Yes, I know some people might get the Home editions because they want the Media Center bonuses (or so I heard).

This hack/trick is quite simple.

Go to Start>>Run and then type in “gpedit.msc” without the quotes (“).

After that, search around for “QoS Packet Scheduler” (Hey, I can’t provide accurate XP info since I forgot and I’m using Window 7) after that, you should see something like “Limit Reservable Bandwidth”. Modify that and set it to “Disabled”, or you can put it to “Enabled” and change the value to 0.

I highly recommend putting it at “disabled” because some computers (like mine) can’t differentiate the difference between “EnabledValue 0” and “EnabledValue 20”. NEVER put it at “Not Configured” because that will STILL take away 20% of your bandwidth.

After that, press F5 and reboot your computer. Enjoy 20% more Internet speed (Again, this is based on what I calculated!)

Q: How can I EVEN FURTHER increase my internet speed?

Login Approvals Step to Secure Facebook

Recently FB launched new security measures known as Facebook Login Approvals - 2 Steps verification ("Secure Facebook Accounts"). This is a new feature by Facebook Account Security in which we have to validate our-self 2 times, before logging to FB Account.
